Presidents Message

Nancy Ahlbin
President, GO-SGMP

Welcome to the Greater Oregon Chapter Society of Government Meeting Professionals (GOSGMP) website! GOSGMP is one of 30 local chapters of the Society of Government Meeting Professional (SGMP), a national non-profit professional organization dedicated to improving the knowledge, expertise, and cost effectiveness for individuals planning and managing government meetings.

Our membership includes government meeting planners from a variety of state, federal and local agencies, as well as suppliers from around the State of Oregon and Southwest Washington that provide services for government events and planners. Monthly educational workshops and networking opportunities provide the balanced planner/supplier membership a greater understanding of the unique needs of government meetings.

Monthly educational workshops are held September through June of each year in the Portland/Salem area.  Many workshops offer CEU credits that can be used for Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), Certified Government Meeting Professional (CGMP), and other hospitality industry certification programs.  Our meetings are generally the first Thursday of the month from 11:30 AM-1:30 PM.  These luncheon meetings will help keep you up to date on what’s happening with government per diem rates and policies, ethics requirements, green meetings, technology tools—as well as the latest hospitality industry information.

We hope that you will use the website to learn more about GOSGMP.  Check out the educational calendar, learn about our committees, community service projects, and help us achieve our commitment to professional-level education and meeting industry knowledge.

This year’s National theme is: Get connected.  Get involved.  Plug into SGMP! There is no better way to do that than attending the SGMP National Educational Conference in Kansas City, May 19-22, 2010.  The speakers and educational sessions will be exceptional and the networking opportunities are second to none.

On behalf of the GOSGMP Board, thank you for your support of the organization.  We celebrated our 20-year anniversary on November 20, 2009.  Help us build the future for the next 20 years!

See you at the meetings.
